I am an Ojibway Woman that resides in the Community of Rolling River First Nation, Manitoba. I have a Masters of Education degree from Brandon University in Guidance and Counselling. I have an undergrad degree in a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology. My work has been focused supporting Indigenous children and families from their perspective with their direction. I have joined the SE Health First Nations, Inuit and Métis Program team as an Education Liaison. I am excited to work with a dynamic team in a supportive organization.
I have experience in case management, facilitating, counselling, supervision, and program coordination within Indigenous Communities in Manitoba. I am a counselling therapist that uses different modalities for healing and wellness. Play therapy, equine therapy, and culturally sensitive approaches are used in working with children, youth, and families.
Advocating for diversity by listening to issues. I am a mother, grandmother, partner and advocate for reconciliation to have meaning and lasting impact on perspectives and practice. I am an advocate for the use of positive language that reflects respect and humility. Language can impact perspectives in a covert manner, bringing awareness to this is a focus for me in work that I am involved in. I live in rural western Manitoba where transportation and access to services can be limited in the smaller cities, towns, and communities. I am committed to conversations and hearing all perspectives as every voice holds value in moving towards positive change. I understand the barriers that remote communities face when accessing quality and longer-term care for their overall wellness. I believe in a holistic approach to well-being considering the factors of: Mental, Emotional, physical, and spiritual.
