Saskatchewan Privacy of Health Information and Security (PHIS) Course

This course was developed for the Saskatchewan Region, in partnership with the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA). This course will help to identify and apply privacy and security principles and practices for the purpose of protecting and enabling sharing of health information.

Topics

This course is divided into the following 4 Topics:

Topic 1: (10 Golden Privacy Principles) After completing this module, First Nations employed healthcare workers will be able to match the definitions of each privacy principle to their responsibilities for healthcare work, and apply them case study format.

Topic 2: (Safeguards for Protecting Personal Health Information) After completing this module, First Nations employed healthcare workers will be able to select and apply good habits for balancing the need to access client PHI and knowing how to safeguard it, and apply them case study format.

Topic 3: (Provincial/Territorial Legislation) After completing this module, First Nations employed healthcare workers will be able to recognize the importance of provincial/territorial legislation regarding PHI and identify the key points for protecting PHI in their custody, while applying them in the situation of delivering healthcare services, in case study format.

Topic 4: (Safeguarding PHI in Your Day-to-day work) After completing this module, First Nations employed healthcare providers will be able to identify and apply good habits to protect and use PHI in an electronic system and at their workspace, and apply them in case study format.
