Erin Funk

Education Liaison

Erin, originally from Opaskwayak Cree Nation in Treaty 5 territory, is a proud Indigenous nurse with nearly two decades of experience across diverse healthcare settings, including Community and Public Health, Maternal Child Health, Primary Care, Education, and Long-Term Care. She earned her Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 2007 from Brandon University, overcoming significant challenges as a young Indigenous woman and mother pursuing education away from home.

Throughout her career, Erin has dedicated herself to serving First Nation communities across Manitoba. Most recently, she contributed to the successful Accreditation of the Rod McGillivary Memorial Care Home in Opaskwayak Cree Nation as part of a team of Indigenous nurses. Today, she rejoined the SE First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Program as an Education Liaison, where she continues to champion collaboration and capacity-building with communities across Turtle Island.

Beyond her professional achievements, Erin is a devoted mother of five who enjoys fishing, hunting, and traveling. She is known for her kind, genuine spirit and lives by values rooted in Indigenous teachings. To her, laughter and nature are medicine, love is strength, and kindness is true wealth.
