Métis Cancer Care Course

The SE Health First Nations, Inuit and Métis Program and the Métis Nation of Alberta (https://albertametis.com/) have collaborated on the development of a Métis Cancer Care Course.  This new course is the first of its kind providing learners with opportunities to better understand Métis people’s distinct history, culture, health, wellbeing and cancer experiences.  Funding for this course was provided by the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.

The course contains 5 modules each sharing Métis Albertans lived experiences and unique case studies.  Each module also provides a practice quiz in preparation for the final knowledge test at the end of the course.

Modules include:

  • Métis People and Health
  • Introduction to Cancer
  • Causes of Cancer, Risks, and Protective Factors and Cancer Prevention
  • Screening, Detection and Diagnosis of Cancer
  • Treatment and Symptom Management
